The Simpsons satirizes NFT culture and causes a pump

In the latest Halloween episode of the Simpsons they satirized NFT culture and inadvertently seem to have caused a pump.

The Halloween episode of the classic cartoon is always special and is known for having a finger on the pulse of modern culture. This year they took a swipe at NFT’s, which of course the Web3 community took in good fun and with good memes. In a segment in this year’s episode titled “Wild Barts Can’t be Token”, Bart Simpson steps into a scanner meant to digitize the collection of the Springfield museum to make an NFT of his but, but it goes wrong and instead he enters the Blockchain as the first NFT of an actual human being.

Homer and Marge are then approached by celebrities and NFT enthusiasts Kylie Jenner, Ron Gronkowski and Jimmy Fallon with an offer for Marge to scan herself and save her son from the blockchain. She finds herself on a train fueled by FOMO (the Fear Of Missing Out), clearly inspired by Snowpiercer, the critically-acclaimed anti-capitalist masterpiece film by director Bong Joon-ho.

The NFT community reacted with humorous memes and saw many of its people wonder about a possible pump created by the Simpsons as the famous collection CryptoPunks soared past the 90.000 dollar floor and saw all old and new Simpsons-inspired derivatives show an increase in floor prices. The Italian artist Rinaldo Russo immediately created a new collection called Springfield Punks and it generated 2.5 million dollars in sales within 24 hours.
